• National Provider Identification (NPI)- The Administrative Simplification provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandated the adoption of a standard unique identifier for health care providers.  Providers must begin using this number May 23, 2007.  Follow this link for more information from the CMS website regarding obtaining an NPI.
• National Plan & Provider Enumeration System- Direct link to apply for NPI online.
• Unique Physician Identification Number (UPIN) Registry - Required for all Medicare participating physicians who have agreed to accept assignment on all Medicare claims and covered services.
• The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) - A Federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This web site has information for both physicians and patients.
• Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts - Web site for the Massachusetts Independent Licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
• Tufts Health Plan - Web site for the family of companies that make up the Tufts Health Plan network.
• WebMD - Provides services that help physicians, consumers, providers and health plans navigate the complexity of the healthcare system.
• MassHealth Claims Submission - Site for providers to get assistance from MassHealth with claims submissions. Web site also provides resource information that can be downloaded and printed.
